TOP QUESTIONS
WHICH HORSES CAN BENEFIT FROM TREATMENT?
All breeds and disciplines can benefit from massage and bodywork. Performance horses may require more frequent treatment sessions as they are typically in rigorous training programs. Horses that suffer from chronic issues such as arthritis may benefit from being on a scheduled treatment plan to help with pain management. If your horse is an easy keeper and typically shows no irregularities in movement or behavior, they may do best being treated on an 'as needed' basis. Regardless of your horse's workload, massage therapy can also help identify tensional patterns in the muscle tissue before an injury occurs.
WHAT CAN I EXPECT DURING A TREATMENT SESSION?
Initial treatment sessions will include a ground assessment to observe the gait and movement patterns of your horse.
It is preferred that your horse has been lightly groomed before a session. It is important that there is a quiet place to treat your horse with minimal distractions. It is recommended that they are not distracted with food, hay or grazing so that their behavior and reactions can be easily observed during the session. Depending on the horse's weekly routine it may be best for them to have the day off after treatment before returning to under saddle work so that the muscle tissue can start to facilitate recovery.
WHAT IS YOUR TREATMENT METHODOLOGY?
I believe in a 'whole horse' approach in my practice. Thoroughly evaluating multiple aspects of your horse's routine and care are relevant when developing a treatment plan. Nutrition, saddle fit, hoof care, workload etc. are all things that I will look closely at during treatment. Every horse is unique. Just like people, individual horses will react to therapy differently. I take pride in tailoring each session to fit the horse's specific needs. It is important that your horse walks away from each session with a positive experience. Your horse's comfort and recovery is always the top priority
